Food Film Menu 2020 officially launched!

FFM 2020 Open Call

IGCAT has just opened a call for submissions to the Food Film Menu 2020 competition with the aim to place a spotlight on awarded and candidate Regions of Gastronomy and their culinary heritage.

Calling All Young Filmmakers: Share Your Food Story!

IGCAT launched the Food Film Menu 2020 to gather short films that highlight the importance of cultural and food uniqueness. These films aim to raise awareness about how local traditions and food heritage can lead to a more sustainable future.

What’s the Theme?

Under the theme Food Stories, IGCAT invites young filmmakers to share captivating stories from their regions. These stories can be about local food products, recipes, chefs, traditions, innovations, or even landscapes.

Choose Your Category

You can submit a short film in one of the following seven categories:

  • Regions of Gastronomy
  • European Young Chefs
  • Food-related Visitor Experiences or Food Gifts from the Regions of Gastronomy
  • Historical Food Routes
  • New Food Trends
  • Environment and Food
  • Food and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

How Are Winners Selected

A group of IGCAT experts in food, culture, and film will choose one winner per category. These seven short films will become the official Food Film Menu 2020.

Winners will be celebrated publicly in Brussels during the European Week of Regions and Cities in October 2020. During the event, the audience will also vote for the Best Food Film Overall.

Film Festival Partner

The winning films will be shown at leading film festivals across the Regions of Gastronomy, including:

  • Astra Film Festival (Sibiu, Romania)
  • FoodFilmFestival (Aarhus, Denmark)
  • Kosmorama Trondheim International Film Festival (Trondheim, Norway)
  • Girona Film Festival (Girona, Spain)

This ensures international visibility for the selected films.

Why It Matters

The Food Film Menu helps promote local food and craft products worldwide. It also encourages young filmmakers to become ambassadors for their region. Most importantly, it builds pride and awareness around food culture and heritage.

A Tool for Change

IGCAT and the Regions of Gastronomy believe film is a powerful tool to protect local food traditions. In a world affected by globalisation and climate change, we risk losing unique plants, animals, and culinary knowledge.

The Food Film Menu seeks to preserve local food as cultural heritage and support community well-being through creative storytelling.

Submit Your Film

You can find the call for submissions here.
Deadline: 27 July 2020
