The competition invites directors from around the world to share inspiring food stories from their regions by creatively depicting local food products, recipes, food producers, chefs, food traditions, food innovations, food techniques and practises, food landscapes or built heritage related to regional gastronomy.
Categories for 2022
The competition includes eight categories:
- Environment, Sustainability and Food;
- European Young Chefs;
- Food-related Visitor Experiences;
- Food Gifts;
- European Regions of Gastronomy;
- Potential, Candidate and Awarded World Regions of Gastronomy;
- Young Farmers and Fishermen (New Category!)
Selection and Awards
A jury of IGCAT experts in the food, culture and film sectors will elect one winner in each category. These 7 short films will form the Food Film Menu 2022, to be showcased in different film festivals across the globe.
IGCAT will also launch a people’s choice vote on Facebook to select the Best European Films Overall (3rd, 2nd and 1st prize) and Best World Films Overall (3rd, 2nd and 1st prize), to be announced at a high-profile event next Autumn (circumstances permitting).
Why Participate?
IGCAT’s Food Film Menu promotes local food products, traditions, and gastronomy-related crafts. It encourages filmmakers to become ambassadors for their regions and raises awareness of food and cultural diversity.
According to Robert Oliver, chef, founder of Pacific Island Food Revolution, and official ambassador for the Food Film Menu:
“Film and video content are crucial for social impact. Visual media can engage and uplift communities by showcasing their people, culture, and especially their local cuisine. Food, inherently sensual and visually stunning, is particularly powerful on screen, enhancing emotional connections and communal spirit.”
