The renowned ART&TUR – International Tourism Film Festival (ART&TUR) and the brand-new EATSA ART & TOURISM Film Festival (EATSA – ATFF) have enriched the network of international cinematographic events that support IGCAT’s Food Film Menu initiative.
IGCAT and Centro de Portugal Film Commission Join Forces
As a result of a collaboration agreement signed by IGCAT and Centro de Portugal Film Commission, these two important film venues will showcase the Food Film Menu 2021. This will be part of their official programmes to promote food and cultural diversity from across the European and World Regions of Gastronomy.
EATSA – ATFF: A Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
Promoted by EATSA – Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association and organised by Centro de Portugal Film Commission, EATSA – ATFF will take place from 25 to 27 September 2021 in Leiria, Portugal. The event shares with IGCAT a strong commitment to sustainable tourism development.
EATSA – ATFF advocates the Manifesto for the regeneration of the tourism sector. This Manifesto fosters “socially equitable, environmentally respectful and economically sustainable” tourism models. The festival will highlight tourism films from around the world whose messages contribute to:
- Catalysing socio-economic development, considering not only economic aspects but also social, educational, and cultural indicators.
- Promoting gender equality and decent working conditions.
- Improving people’s quality of life while conserving environmental resources and reducing climate change impact.
- Preserving and enhancing the cultural identity of each territory.
ART&TUR Festival: Creativity and Innovation in Tourism
EATSA-ATFF complements the work of its older brother, ART&TUR Festival, which will run from 26 to 29 October 2021 in Aveiro, Portugal. In 2021, ART&TUR will celebrate its 14th edition.
Since 2008, the ART&TUR Festival has acted as “a centre of creativity and innovation in the field of tourism promotion.” It serves as an essential reference for tourism operators and entities. The festival is also a forum for reflecting on new tourism trends, bringing together academic experts and business sector representatives.
The ART&TUR Festival is a unique event in both Portugal and the international scene. It is also organised by the Centro de Portugal Film Commission, with the official support of the Tourism Authority of Centro de Portugal Region. Additionally, it is a member of the CIFFT (International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals).
About the Food Film Menu
IGCAT’s Food Film Menu competition encourages high-quality audio-visual content that highlights regional food and cultural diversity. Each year, it collects the best short food films and videos from candidate and awarded European and World Regions of Gastronomy. These films aim to promote their local food heritage.
Through the Food Film Menu, IGCAT and the Regions of Gastronomy recognise the audio-visual sector as a powerful tool to safeguard and showcase regional food cultures. This work is vital, as such traditions are currently endangered by globalisation, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity.
Open call for submissions to the Food Film Menu 2021
Deadline: 16 August 2021
About IGCAT’s International Food Film Menu
IGCAT’s Food Film Menu contributes to internationally promote local food products, know-how, traditions and new trends related to gastronomy and crafts; encourage film directors to become ambassadors for their regions; and stimulate awareness of food and cultural diversity.
According to Robert Oliver, chef, founder of Pacific Island Food Revolution, and official ambassador for the Food Film Menu:
“Film and video content are crucial for social impact. Visual media can engage and uplift communities by showcasing their people, culture, and especially their local cuisine. Food, inherently sensual and visually stunning, is particularly powerful on screen, enhancing emotional connections and communal spirit.”
To increase the visibility of the Food Film Menu, IGCAT collaborates with several international film festivals and cultural institutions including: the FoodFilmFestival in Aarhus (Denmark); Girona Film Festival (Spain); EATSA Art & Tourism Film Festival (Portugal); ART&TUR International Tourism Film Festival (Portugal); Amorgos Tourism Film Festival (Greece); Famtàstic · Evenings of Gastronomic Art (Spain); CINECLUB 262 – Cineciok Festival (Italy); Terres Travel Festival – Films & Creativity (Spain); Chania Film Festival (Greece); Festival TEF Krk (Croatia); and NNLE Youth Palace of Zugdidi Municipality (Georgia).
