Innovation specialist and food scientist at the Future Food Institute, Alegría Serna joins the jury of IGCAT’s Food Film Menu 2026.

Alegría Serna is a food scientist specialized in Research and Development (R&D), sustainable innovation, and science communication. Her work explores food ingredients and bioactive compounds at the molecular level, combining food science, innovation, and sustainability to contribute to more resilient global food systems.

She currently works as an Innovation Specialist at the Future Food Institute, where she contributes to projects focused on sustainable food futures, consumer engagement, and innovation within the agri-food sector. Her expertise includes formulation, prototyping, and scaling-up, with a particular interest in translating scientific knowledge into practical and accessible solutions.

Alongside her work in innovation, Alegría is deeply passionate about science communication and public engagement in @cuina_lab. She believes that understanding the science behind food can help people build a more conscious and informed relationship with what they eat. This vision led her to found Cuina Lab, a science communication project dedicated to revealing the hidden molecular stories behind food through visual narratives and accessible scientific content.

Through her research and communication work, Alegría aims to bridge the gap between academic, industry and society, making complex food science understandable, engaging, and relevant for broader audiences. Her approach combines scientific rigor with creativity, helping connect people with the cultural, molecular, and sustainable dimensions of food.
